Section 3- Describe Your Approach
USPS associates bring unique styles and attributes that contribute to the success as an organization.
In Describe Your Approach, the USPS would like to learn more about your preferred style and approach to work.
In this experience, you will read the two statements at the top and bottom and consider which one is most like you. If the top statement is more like you, then select either the “Most like me” or “Somewhat like me” buttons at the top. If the bottom statement is more like you, then select either the “Somewhat like me” or “Most like me” buttons at the bottom. Select the Next button to continue. You can also select the Back button to return to the previous question. Keep in mind, if you want to change a selection, you can only go back to the most recent question you answered. You won’t be able to change any choices before this.
Keep in Mind:
- Think of work situations
- Be yourself
- Try not to spend too long on any one question
- No time limit, but work quickly
- Once you respond, you’ll automatically advance

- Takes approximately 6 minutes
- Number of questions: 56
1. Individuals should express when something is bothering them
I can tell when someone is frustrated or upset
SLM: I can tell when someone is frustrated or upset
A Mail Carrier should be empathetic since they may face many situations on their routes where they need to respond to customer concerns and requests. It is important that the ideal candidate demonstrates great customer service and be able to communicate effectively while being understanding. Choosing “Somewhat like me” shows that you also understand the importance of individuals expressing themselves.
2. I prefer setting goals that are challenging and push my abilities
I like setting goals that I know are practical and reachable
SLM: I prefer setting goals that are challenging and push my abilities
Choosing this answer shows that you tend to challenge yourself instead of being complacent. Choosing “Somewhat like me” instead of “Most like me” shows that although you tend to challenge yourself by choosing goals that push your abilities, those aren’t the only kind of goals you set for yourself.
3. I do what is required of me at work
I try to do more than what is required of me at work
MLM: I try to do more than what is required of me at work
Like all USPS positions, Mail Carriers are expected to exceed expectations. Choosing “Most like me” suggests that you have a work ethic that compels you to always exceed expectations.
