The Postal Service expects Mail Carriers to be hard working. Of course, with hard work comes credit and recognition. The higher the number of honors, the more you will appeal to USPS. Think back and try to recall every time you received a weekly or monthly recognition. This can include every time an employer gave you a letter of commendation, no matter what the topic (perfect attendance, met and exceeded a department goal, had the highest Quality Assurance scores in the department, etc.)

10. How do you think your most recent supervisor would rate your attendance compared to others?
The very best
Among the best

For each department to operate successfully, each person must ensure his work tasks are completed on time. If you have an attendance problem, this means you are not showing up when scheduled to ensure your work tasks are completed and on time. The USPS needs Mail Carriers that take attendance seriously. So the USPS is looking for the answers “The very best” or “Among the best”. Remember, you may not know how your most recent supervisor may compare your attendance to others, so give yourself the benefit of the doubt and see yourself in a positive light.

Unless you know for a fact how your supervisor would rate your customer service skills compared to others, you should consider how you would rate yourself. Think highly of yourself and have confidence when providing a response .

Unexcused absences disrupt the workflow and operations of a company. If you call out of work at the last minute, that impacts supervisors, coworkers and customers. As you know, the Mail Carriers must deliver mail items to residences and businesses. If this person has a history of unexcused absences, this appears as if the candidate may continue that behavior in the role of the Mail Carrier. If the Mail Carrier is not there to deliver mail items, it could seriously impact the USPS’s ability to meet their goals. Therefore, the USPS is looking for candidates who have little to no absences. The ideal Mail Carrier would answer “None” as it shows a commitment to showing up to work when scheduled and not having a tolerance for this type of behavior.
